Hello World: A Love Letter to Life, Death, and Everything In Between

“May this archive not only make you wonder what lies beyond the veil — but awaken your heart to the gift of being here at all.”

My name is Julie Mizuki Walters, but you can call me Zuki (Mizuki means beautiful moon in Japanese)!

On New Year’s Day, 2012, my life changed forever.
That day, I died. Or at least, I came incredibly close.

It was brutal — I was being murdered in cold blood. And yet, what I experienced in those moments was nothing short of divine. I crossed into a path beyond this world, beyond pain, beyond fear. A realm of light, love, and — most astonishingly — forgiveness. It was the most profound experience of my human existence.

Not a single day passes without thinking about it.

For years after, I struggled with the weight of what I had seen. The longing to return “home” was so strong, I nearly left this world by choice. The afterlife, after all, felt more real than anything I had known. But eventually… something shifted.

I began to see Earth differently.

This world, with its pain and poetry, grief and beauty, became sacred again. I began to understand:
We are here for a reason.
Not to escape.
Not to suffer endlessly.
But to experience something utterly rare:
Being human.

Here, we live in duality. There is light and shadow, joy and sorrow. Change is constant. Chaos and harmony dance daily. But there is something wondrous about that. Something holy. Something the afterlife doesn't quite hold (at least with the glimpse I saw).

The truth is — we all die.
There’s no escaping that.
So why not embrace this experience?

I created The NDE Archives as a way to explore what happens after, yes — but even more so, to honor what it means to be here. My hope is that these stories stir your memory of who you are as a soul… but also soften your heart toward the miracle of being human.

Let this project be a bridge:
Between this world and the next.
Between the questions we fear and the truths we long for.
Between the parts of ourselves we’ve forgotten, and the parts we’re here to remember.

For over a decade, I’ve carried a vision — to give voice to the stories that echo beyond this world. Then one day, the timing felt right. The calling became clear. I don’t know exactly where this leads, but I know I’m not walking it alone. And I’m so glad you’re here.

With love and awe,
Zuki
